Washington Wizards Pregame Ceremony 2005

Image Engineering designed the pregame effects for the Washington Wizard's November 5th game. Three dimensional renderings created by our award winning art staff gave the Wizard's office visual reference for the various effects which included pyrotechnics, a kabuki drop, lighting, CO2 smoke effects, flames, and laser graphics.

The Associated Press News Service had this to say: "The Wizards gave themselves the red carpet treatment during the pregame ceremony. The starters struck poses as they rose one at a time amid smoke on a movable platform in front of a replica of the Washington Monument, then walked down a red carpet through a pair of faux Roman columns and onto the court. Arenas, waving his warmup jersey as he trundled down the steps, received the loudest ovation. He also addressed the crowd, thanking them for their support in last year's postseason run. ''We wanted to keep it going this year,'' he said. ..."

3D renderings were made of the stage, kabuki scrims and lighting to show the client how the items would fit into the presentation. Using these to scale objects, Image Engineering could capture any angle of the stage piece.

Players hammed it up as CO2 jets, strobe lights, and intelligent lights heralded their arrival. The mechanical lift raised over 8 feet to a red carpet covered stage built on site.
The Washington Times elaborated on the effects. "In the end, the pyrotechnic show that rivaled anything the MTV Video Music Awards might have staged couldn't compare to the beauty Washington Wizards coach Eddie Jordan saw in the Washington Wizards' ugly duckling-like 87-79 home-opening victory over the Orlando Magic at sold-out MCI Center. The Wizards improved to 3-0 for the first time since they started the 1978-79 season 4-0. In pregame introductions, each Wizards player rode a hidden elevator in a corner of the arena, then descended a red-carpeted set of stairs at least 20 feet high while flanked by torches spitting flames. But Jordan saw only the beauty of what his team -- which is winning ugly with great defense -- is accomplishing on the floor. "
