(Baltimore, MD)— Image Engineering, Inc. announces its nineteenth International Laser Display Association (ILDA) award. Their artistic entry, “Don’t Cha” was awarded first place honors in the category of “Lasers Used in Film/Video.” The video, a commercial produced for Heineken Light and aired throughout the year, prominently featured full color laser atmospheric effects. Senior Art Director, Amy R. Case, remarked, “You don’t usually get to see lasers as intense as this in the United States, the commercial has a European club feel.” The lighthearted commercial begs the question, “Don’t Cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me?”

For the shoot, Image Engineering designed the color beam effects including a camera pass of an intense beam of white laser light. “On the video preview, the director caught a glimpse of a flash and asked the camera man to back up the reel. He did, and there it was, a perfect white flash with green halo. The halo was exactly the color of the bottle. They kept it in the shot and afterwards as a background in the logo loop and on their website. It was one of those things we thought would happen, and it did.” Says Amy.

Scheduled for a two-day shoot, Image Engineering’s crew set up, worked with the camera team and New York State laser safety officers to produce all the effects asked for and B-roll filler for AVSO, a NYC advertising agency. “Michon (the director) reviewed the dailies and cut us loose. On the very first day, he had everything he needed, and then some.”

ILDA's awards for excellence--the laser display industry's equivalent of Hollywood's Oscars--each year honor companies and individuals from around the world for their achievements. The Artistic Award categories cover virtually all aspects of modern laser displays, from the production of huge outdoor shows to the creation of individual laser graphics. The 2006 ILDA Awards were presented at the Awards Banquet held March 11, 2007 in Jiangmen, Guangdong, China.

Founded in 1992 as Advanced Entertainment Technologies (AET), the company established a commitment to providing the display marketplace with the latest in technology, innovation and creativity. Image Engineering Corporation of Boston approached AET in 1998 to produce their events. Through the synergy of the two companies, Image Engineering was able to continue its tradition as one of the finest multi-media display companies in the world. In March of 2000, AET and Image Engineering Corp merged allowing full integration of the two companies.

Image Engineering/AET introduced technological advancements like the ITV Projection Screen (Patent number 6008938), interactive laser control software, DMX control systems, laser-video integration, and ShowLink multimedia show control technology. The last item won a Fenning Award of Technology from the International Laser Display Association. ShowLink system installations include Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL and Five Rivers Metro Park in Dayton, OH. Continuing their commitment to this goal, Image Engineering has added DL2 moving head video units to their inventory.

With their award-winning artistic department, Image Engineering provides equipment, designs shows, and manages effects for events like the Baltimore Ravens’ player introductions, and the Ben Franklin Tercentenary. Image Engineering’s laser, video, pyrotechnic, large image projection, smoke, flame and other effects work in tandem to create entertaining display experiences.
